چکیده
Variable ejection velocity jet models can qualitatively explain the appearance of successive working surfaces in Herbig-Haro (HH) jets. This paper presents an attempt to explore which features of the HH 34 jet can indeed be reproduced by such a model. From previously published data on this object, we find evidence for the existence of a 3-mode ejection velocity variability, and then explore the implications of such a variability. From simple, analytic considerations it is possible to show that the longer period modes produce a modulation on the shorter period modes, resulting in the formation of " trains " of multiple knots. The knots observed close to the source of HH 34 could correspond to such a structure. Finally, a numerical simulation with the ejection velocity variability deduced from the HH 34 data is computed. This numerical simulation shows a quite remarkable resemblance with the observed properties of the HH 34 jet.

We have mapped the protostellar jet HH 211 in 342 GHz continuum, SiO (J = 8− 7), and CO (J = 3− 2) emission at ∼ 1 resolution with the Submillimeter Array (SMA). Thermal dust emission is seen in continuum at the center of the jet, tracing an envelope and a possible optically thick compact disk (with a size < 130 AU) around the protostar. A knotty jet is seen in CO and SiO as in H2, but extendin...
متن کاملTheoretical interpretation of the apparent deceleration in the HH 34 superjet
The HH 34 superjet shows a steep velocity decrease (from ∼ 500 to ∼ 100 km s−1) over a distance of ∼ 2 pc on either side of the central source. We explore whether or not this behaviour could be interpreted as evidence for a slow “turning on” of the ejection velocity of the jet, and find that this is indeed possible, but only for an ejection velocity that has had a dramatic growth over the last ...
متن کاملSearching for jet rotation in Class 0/I sources observed with GEMINI/GNIRS
Context. In recent years, there has been a number of detections of gradients in the radial velocity profile across jets from young stars. The significance of these results is considerable. They may be interpreted as a signature of jet rotation about its symmetry axis, thereby representing the only existing observational indications supporting the theory that jets extract angular momentum from s...

Using field-theoretic renormalization group methods the long-time behaviour of the A + B → ∅ annihilation reaction with equal initial densities n A (0) = n B (0) = n 0 in a quenched random velocity field is studied. At every point (x, y) of a d-dimensional system the velocity is parallel or antiparallel to the x-axis and depends on the coordinates perpendicular to the flow. Assuming that v(y) h...

Multi-wavelength photometric observations of Cygnus X-3 were carried out at 18 cm through to 450 μm, complemented by X-ray (2-10 keV) observations. The system was mildly active with cm fluxes at 150 – 250 mJy. We find the spectrum to be flat with a spectral index of zero. Using a modified Wolf-Rayet wind model, and assuming emission is generated in synchrotron emitting jets from the source, we ...
